Counseling for Life’s Transitions
Are you experiencing a transition in your life? Is there a change, problem or new development to which you can’t quite adjust? Life presents us with many kinds of transitions – the death of a loved one, illness, divorce, separation, alcohol or drug problems in yourself or a loved one, health issues, and many others. Even changes that you feel happy and excited about, such as a new relationship, marriage or childbirth, can induce stress and anxiety.
Stress levels during any sort of transitional time can be extremely high, and symptoms can include fear, confusion, anxiety, restlessness and the inability to concentrate. The good news is these indicators, or symptoms, of transitional stress may be the signal that you are on the threshold of a positive change.
It has been my experience that we often know what is right for us but have not learned to listen to our intuition. Counseling does not have to be a last ditch effort, undertaken only when you feel at your wit’s end. Instead, it can be a forum in which you can explore and experience yourself in a climate of safety and support.
Good psychotherapy stems from a good connection between you and your therapist so that together you can work toward the goals of healing and change. My approach with clients is active as well as empathic and can take the form of short-term problem solving or more in-depth exploration.
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) licensed by the states of Massachusetts and California and trained to work with individuals (adults and adolescents), couples, families and groups. I have a Master of Science in Counseling from San Francisco State University.
In clinical practice for 20 years, I have helped many clients manage and master the change process. One of my areas of expertise is helping people deal with substance abuse issues. I am a certified chemical dependency counselor and have worked in inpatient, outpatient and residential substance abuse facilities and have directed an outpatient substance abuse program.
My office is located in Newton Centre, convenient to public transportation. You can contact me for an appointment by calling (617) 965-9036.
